The holidays are right around the corner. It's the time of year when we say thank you for what we have and lend a helping hand to others. If you're looking to volunteer this holiday season near Lincoln, Beatrice, or Ceresco, check out one of these organizations.
Fresh Start

Fresh Start is a transitional home in Lincoln, NE, that's been helping homeless women get back on their feet since 1991. Over the last three decades their dedicated case managers have helped over 1,500 women.
They provide a safe drug and alcohol-free environment for women over the age of 19 to work on self-sufficiency and building a foundation for a stable life.
You can help them further their mission by making a donation or volunteering. They accept donations for all sorts of household items such as cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, non-perishable foods, canned goods, bus passes, and women's clothing.
All the clothing they receive goes to The Daisy Thrift Shop. It's completely volunteer run and always looking for sorters and clerks. Volunteers can also work on their special events, help out around the office as an assistant, or lead a workshop on anything from arts and crafts to job hunting.
For more information on volunteering, including updates on their events, follow Fresh Start on Facebook.
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach
Back in the 1880s, Matt Talbot quit drinking and devoted his life to God. Over 200 years later the Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach was founded to do the same. They offer a good meal made by the community and helpful programs to those in need.
Using their core values of compassion, dignity, empowerment, community, and integrity, they fulfill their mission of serving the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the homeless and working poor.
You can help them feed and aid their visitors by volunteering, either individually or with a group of friends. There's lots of opportunities in the dining hall like scanning meal cards, entertaining guests with mealtime music, and helping to prepare and serve the food, as well as clean up afterwards.
They also accept donations for non-perishable foods and hygiene products for their shelter. You can also help with maintenance around the office or lend a hand in their garden.

People's City Mission

For over a hundred years People's City Mission has been feeding and sheltering poor and homeless people throughout Lincoln. This organization was founded by a group of churches and farmers who wanted to use the teachings of Christ to improve their city.
Fast forward to today and they're serving hearty meals to over 30,000 people a year. Plus, they've even opened the PCM Free Medical Clinic to provide free medical, dental, and behavioral health to low-income people.
To get involved, you can donate supplies or volunteer during one of their many food or clothing drives. Their shelter also provides housing and meals, so you can assist them with everything from serving food to cleaning their facility.
