A dependable truck like the Ford F-150 or Ram 1500 should be able provide you with a versatile drivetrain and the capability to move a heavy payload or trailer. But which one of these trucks is right for you?

Zoellner Ford of Beatrice shows drivers in Beatrice, Lincoln, and Ceresco which one has more of what you're looking for in this truck comparison.

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500: Power

Both trucks are built to accommodate lots of power to get you and your heaviest cargo to your destination.

The F-150 offers a full lineup of engines with six different powertrains to choose from. The strongest option is a 3.5L High-Output V6 engine that gets up to 450 horsepower and a whopping 510 lb-ft of torque.

The 1500 only offers three engines, and its largest and most powerful option just can't measure up. It's a bulky 5.7L HEMI® V8 that gets 395 horsepower and only 410 lb-ft of torque.

Along with these options, the Ford provides you with a wide range of gears thanks to a dynamic 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. The Ram only offers a 6-speed or an 8-speed automatic that won't provide you with as many gears.

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500: Towing Capacity

Each truck uses its powerful engines and durable drivetrains to help you move lots of heavy cargo. When you're behind the wheel of the Ford F-150, you can confidently tow a boat, camper, or large trailer with its best-in-class towing capacity of 13,200 pounds.

The 1500 is also set up to pull heavy cargo, but falls a few thousand pounds short of the F-150. Its towing capacity tops out at 10,620 pounds.

Both trucks are equipped with features to help make towing easier. Trailer Sway Control keeps your cargo level, while your dashboard monitor helps you hook up to your trailer by using the rear-view camera to see behind you.

The Ford takes this a step further though. It offers a Pro Trailer Backup Assist system that gives you multiple angles of your tow hitch, including an overhead view. Plus, it can even back your trailer into place for you when it's time to unload.

The Ram only lets you check your trailer from one angle and can't back your trailer into place for you.

Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500: Payload

Both trucks offer a durable spray-in bedliner to help your truck bed stand up to dents and scrapes. The main difference between them is how much cargo they can move without a trailer.

The Ford F-150 once again offers best-in-class ability. Its truck bed can safely carry a payload of up to 3,270 pounds. The 1500 can't hold as much cargo for you. Its payload capacity is just 1,880 pounds.
