The future of trucks is here, and it's electric. The all-new Ford F-150 Lightning resurrects and slightly repurposes a classic Ford nameplate. And as a fully electric pickup with massive battery capacity, standard generator capability, and up to 563 horsepower, it's hard to think of a vehicle with a more fitting moniker. With more torque and faster acceleration (zero to 60 in ~4.5 seconds) than any Ford truck to date, the F-150 Lightning is one of the most thrilling vehicles Ford has ever built. Deliveries are scheduled to start in the spring of 2022, but you can reserve and order one for yourself through Zoellner Ford here in Beatrice, NE. Here's a quick overview of the all-new F-150 Lightning's key attributes.
2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Performance, Range, and Charging
The F-150 Lightning is powered by two in-board electric motors that combine to deliver robust all-wheel-drive performance. With the standard-range battery, the F-150 Lightning produces 426 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque and can tow up to 7,700 pounds. An available extended-range battery raises the horsepower to 563 and boosts the max tow rating to 10,000 pounds.
Ford estimates that the standard battery will provide around 230 miles of range, while the larger battery gets an estimated 300 miles. However, it's important to note that Ford's estimations are based on carrying 1,000 pounds of payload, so unladen range may be notably higher.
Extended-range models come standard with the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which provides a peak charging power of 19.2 kW via the battery's dual onboard chargers and can replenish the battery in about eight hours. The F-150 Lightning is also compatible with public 150-kW DC fast chargers, which can fill the battery from 15% to 80% in under 45 minutes.
Ford Intelligent Backup Power
When the grid goes down, the F-150 Lightning can help keep the lights on. With the available 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, Ford Intelligent Backup Power enables your truck to serve as a backup power source during an outage. Capable of off-boarding up to 9.6 kW of peak energy, the F-150 Lightning can power a full home for up to three days or more, depending on usage.
Mega Power Frunk
With no engine under the hood, the F-150 Lightning provides even more versatility for work or play. The front trunk boasts 14.1 cubic feet of cargo space and a payload capacity of 400 pounds. The compartment is sealed so that it stays clean in the elements, and it's washable and drainable, so you can stow dirty gear and clean it out easily when you get home. The Mega Power Frunk also gives you up to 2.4 kW of exportable power, with four standard 120V household-style outlets and USB-A and C ports.
Advanced Tech and Safety
The 2022 F-150 Lightning comes standard with a 12-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12-inch SYNC® 4 touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and cloud-based connectivity. LARIAT and Platinum models get an upgrade to the new 15.5-inch SYNC® 4A system with Enhanced Voice Recognition. Additionally, all models include Ford Co-Pilot360™ 2.0, which adds advanced safety features like:
